The history of Orlando's Restaurant starts with Orlie's. Orlie's opened its doors on April 15, 1962, at 33 North Main St. in Muncy, PA. It was the first restaurant to introduce pizza and submarine sandwiches to the Muncy area. It saw a whirlwind of great success until the lack of space and parking started to become a major problem. In 1967, Orlie's moved to a larger, better location several blocks away at 17 West Water St.
From 1967 to 1972, Orlie's saw ups and down and was even put out of business for a few weeks in 1972 due to Hurricane Agnes. What seemed to be a complete disaster turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Money poured into the region, thanks to the newly formed Small Business Association. Orlie's remained stable for the next three years. However, Orlie's began to see a decline again in 1976 with the advent of the Lycoming Mall. Orlie's and several other downtown businesses began to suffer.
Circumstances forced Orlie's to search for a new location. In 1977, a large department store building on Main Street came up for sale. Considering the plight of previous small businesses, the decision to buy it was a difficult one, but the papers were signed in October. Within 3 years Orlie's needed to move again. Additionally, he now wanted to open a full-scale Italian-America restaurant.
Orlando's Ristorante was born in November of 1981. Unfortunately, without wine, an Italian restaurant is like an eagle without wings. The restaurant failed within two years. Meanwhile, Orlie's stayed afloat. In 1998, a liquor license was purchased and Orlando's was resurrected as Orlando's Restaurant.
This time around the business flourished. In 2003, our neighboring building came up for sale. We made the decision to purchase it primarily to protect our interest in convenient parking for our customers. After extensive renovations took place, we transformed the space into a new “Market & Deli" to bring even more incredible food to the downtown area.
